What Colon Cleansing is All About

Everyone can benefit from colon cleansing due to the lifestyle that most of us live. The water and food we consume may not be the best quality – especially if we are partial to eating fast food that is usually fried, drink water that is substandard or take in artificial preservatives through our processed food. This kind of lifestyle produces an imbalance in our system, thus necessitating colon cleansing. The colon is an important organ whose status can directly affect our overall health. This is because this is the organ responsible for nutrient absorption and digestive health. Health problems crop up when fecal matter, putrefecation, intestinal parasites, and debris build up in our intestines. Fecal matter could become impacted which could lead to toxins building up within our system. The impacted matter also exerts pressure on our internal organs. Such pressure slows down the natural muscle movement of the intestines, leading to constipation. Colon cleansing thus becomes necessary.

One of the best ways to maintain a well-functioning internal system is to have colon cleansing done on ourselves. Colon cleansing is also known by other names such as colon irrigation, colonics and colon hydrotherapy. Therapists rely on a machine dubbed the LIBBE to infuse warm filtered or purified water into the colon in order to cleanse and balance it. The LIBBE (which is FDA registered) resembles a padded table which has an opening below into which the debris empties, and from there it goes into the sewage system. A plastic tube which is around the width of a pencil is inserted into the rectum of the patient. Around 2 to 3 inches of this tube, which is disposable, goes up into the rectum and it is through this tube that filtered water is infused into the colon. Water keeps coming in until the individual feels full, then the patient has a bowel movement to remove the water and corresponding debris. The water and debris go around the tube rather than through it and goes into the opening in the center of the table.

Most people express concern as to whether the procedure is uncomfortable or painful, and if it is intimidating. The procedure is actually quite clean and comfortable, and is not at all painful. The process is not messy in the least, and the patient need not be intimidated because the therapist does not stand over him or her during the process, and does not even stay in the same room. Should the patient require assistance, he or she can press a button on the machine and the therapist will promptly come to his or her aid. This guarantees that the patient will be relaxed all throughout the cleansing process. If the patient likes, he or she can listen to soothing music or read a book or magazine while he or she waits to be cleansed.

Alternatively, a patient can opt to take a cleansing product instead. Most methods for carrying out a colon cleanse are quite safe. However, there are certain methods that rely on harsh, stimulant chemicals and herbs which are not good for you and may even be harmful.

It is important to know, in addition, that no colon cleanse should be taken for a long period of time since your aim is to allow your body to carry out its natural healing ability while permitting regular bowel movements to build up and be eliminated from the body naturally. The body has to heal itself and operate independently.

Majority of colon cleanses are quite safe though there is a certain degree of risk (remember, whenever you take in a foreign substance, there might be side effects.) Still, there are colon cleanses which are relatively safe to use. In the same way, certain colon cleanses should not be used at all because they are quite risky.

So if you are in doubt as to the cause of your health problems, perhaps a colon cleanse can help. See a good therapist today and feel better from the inside out.
